Okay, the next time your post include a picture of a real life Shelob, could you maybe put a little more warning in your blog title or write something like, "Hey, M.J., don't look at this post!"
Because I just shrieked so loud my neighbors came over to make sure I wasn't being murdered. Or, considering it's my neighbors, maybe came over to watch or help. I didn't ask.
Eeeek! I usually jump a mile when I see spiders, but I do have a morbid fascination with them. Maybe I just like creeping myself out...(shudders) Evil spider indeed. We don't normally see many spiders until the Autumn when they come in the house looking for somewhere warm, but at the moment we have wasps. Big, nasty, wasps of the stinging variety too...(shudders some more...)
Looks a lot better than the ginormous roach, with long dark wings that waited for me to pull in my garage the other night. Now, that is frightening. I could have used this spiders web making skills. I was brave, really. Okay, I stood outside the garage and screamed until my 14 y/o came out and killed it.
We had a spider that looked sort of like that one - not exactly - in our garden last year. We looked it up, and it was supposed to be good for the garden even though it looked evil. It made me nervous when it disappeared. Better to know where it is.

I practically took my shoe off and whacked my computer screen when I saw it. You need to move, Rusty. Now. Don't wait until the town is webbed over and spiders are laying eggs in your brain.
I recommend you plant a couple of eucalyptus trees in your back garden near that spooky window. The scent of the medicine leaves assembling outside the house over the fall might keep the them away.
Ick. They're beautiful as long as they remain outside. But once they enter my house - it's the can of Aqua Net hairspray for them. (Unless the guy next door is around - he'll transport things like that to the woods for me, bless him.)

ReplyDeleteIt's a web-weaver - they don't come inside and they eat others spiders and anything else they catch. Besides, their colors are awesome.

ReplyDeleteI had one of these near my deck a couple of years ago. They are freaky looking, but make the most intricate webs I've ever seen.

Gail is as gruesome as my kids were in their teens! I learned to be brave with spiders because husband couldn't! Still can't stand cockroaches though.
