Weekend Goals

*Edit - for anyone interested, this has been updated to reflect who I did*

Okay. I've got lots of goals set for this weekend and I mean to achieve them. Writing stuff down like this does help me get things done. So here goes.

  1. Finish my damned Novella: That is, finish my first draft. I've enjoyed writing this, as it's the first thing I've ever done that I actually outlined before hand. I got to tell you, it makes things way easier. If I ever go off on a tangent, I at least know what my end goal is. It helps, it really does. I'm thinking it'll end up between 20 and 25k words long. I might edit it down to half that much, but whatever. I'm just concerned with getting this damn draft done first. Feels like I've been working on this all summer. Not finished, getting close though. I didn't get as much time to write as I hoped I would.
  2. Put my existing novelette up on Smashwords: I can't forget to make sure they don't post it to B&N though. After that I think I can wash my hands of it and call that one done. Complete.
  3. More cover art: I think I'm going to have to quit stressing and just do it. Let's not talk about this.
  4. Wash clothes: My wife and I are still trying this deal where she does the yard stuff and I do the washing. I hate to say I like it, but I think it's a whole lot easier than the yard. I'll probably feel bad and help her though. It isn't fair. I did wash clothes, not as much as I should have. But it counts.
  5. Sigh. Take another look at my rejected novel and see if I should query it, en masse, to everyone on earth that has anything to do with a big publishing house or trunk it, or maybe self-publish it. Would you believe I forgot.
  6. Finish A Dance With Dragons: It's the other thing I've been working on all summer. I'm around 800 pages in so far, only a few hundred more and I won't being reading anything else about Tyrrion, Jon, Jamie, or any of the rest for the better part of a decade. I'll be sad when I'm finished, I really will. This may have been the reason I didn't get more of the other things done.
  7. Buy more beer: Cause I'm out. As some commenters mentioned, this one makes completing the others even harder. I was a teetotaler this weekend.

If I post again over the weekend I'll be quite mad at myself. I need to be writing, not blogging, someone call me on it if I do.

So you're expecting to get all that done in two days? Do you have super powers? Could you send some my way? I'd probably be tackling one book and a load of laundry. Do you ever feel like there's not enough time for everything you'd like to do? I know, I'm full of questions today. Have a productive weekend. :)

I'm with Laila. That does seem like a lot to do over the weekend. Good luck with it. :)

You might want to save #7 for last or else you might not get around to doing any of the other stuff.

I agree with Rogue!
I do all the yardwork (because if my wife even steps in the back yard she gets poison ivy) and half of the housework. I don't mind.
And don't you dare scrap that story!

Good luck reaching your weekend goals!

Very ambitious. I don't get to have my own goals for this weekend. There's a wedding tonight and a party tomorrow related to said wedding. Something else on Sunday; although, I don't remember what that is, right now. Good luck with yours, though!

Why no Barnes and Noble love? I have a Nook and buy ebooks from there whenever I can.

Laila - Is that a lot? I don't know, I figure I might not get it all done, but if I don't have goals, then I will achieve nothing.

Cindy - Well, I'm pretty sure I'll at least get the beer. I probably should have made that number 1

Rogue - Too late. I can already cross that one off the list. Actually, that isn't true. I try not to keep beer in the house because I tend to drink it until it's gone. I remember when those little keg things came out a few years ago. Wow, I put those things away pretty quick. So, my lesson. If it's in the house it's as good as gone, if I don't buy it then I'm fine.

Alex - I always thought of yardwork as my responsibility but my wife says it's one of her true joys in life. Whatever. I think she really likes gardening. But she seems really determined. I won't argue.

Eagle - thanks.

Andrew - Weddings and moving and all that stuff isn't something I enjoy, but it's a part of life I suppose. Enjoy it all if you can.

Michael - I love B&N, I already have my story up on the Nook though. If I don't tell SmashWords to NOT put it up they will. I heard lots of folks ending up with two listings for their books for the Nook. SmashWords gets their cut of any sales that are done through their listing. No reason for to do that.

That's a pretty ambitious weekend. Wishing you luck!

Me too! Must write novel, not blog, while doing laundry. Laundry isn't hard - putting it away is the problem at my house.

Hee. Hee. That's a heck of a lot of stuff to do. you are a machine, Rusty. I know what you mean though, writing things down is a big motivator, don't know why.

Good luck with all of that. Might want to move number seven up to number one before you start. And I admit doing laundry is pretty easy. I don't mind doing it at all.

Claire - Thanks, so far it isn't going so well.

Lola - Thanks!

Tonja - agreed, putting it away is far worse.

Deborah - If I'm a machine, I'm not a very good one. As of 2:15 Sunday afternoon I've not gotten half these things done. Not looking to good for me.

Stephen - I like your recommendation way better. If I were to start with number 1 I wouldn't get anything else done.
