D is for Demog

A-Z Challenge day number 4!

Back to things from my would-be fantasy novel. This is something I referred to as a Demog in my manuscript so far. It's a chimera made by the gods to torment men.

It ended up looking a bit more ape-like than what I wanted to sketch, but again, you're getting first drafts, I'm not going back and changing stuff once its down.

It's funny, the reason I like sketching, or art in general, is because it allows me to express things that exist only in my head for others to view and hopefully enjoy. It can be frustrating when I can't quite make my vision inside easily be put down in a sketch. But whatever, it's sorta what I had in mind, use you imagination if you have to.

Also, I'm noticing that there isn't very much sense of scale here. I'll need to correct that in future sketches.
Arg! I only have fur on my head.
Also, today is Alex J Cavanaugh's Insecure Writer's Support Group. A time to vent our fears and hope that others can share in our neurosis. My fear of the month this month is that this Demog is just like me. A chimera made up of bits of other things... but nothing about it, or me, is truly unique.

I do think about that sort of thing, a lot. Here's hoping that I can take all the disparate parts that have influenced me and turn them into something truly new.

Great word - Demog! Love how you can sketch your characters - really brings them to life. Will he find peace once he's all colored in? LOL. Nice to meet up here on the A to Z. I posted about disgusting things today for D - does Demog fall under that? :)

I love that you can sketch your characters like this. Me, I have to rely on magazine photos and other people's drawings along with my descriptions. My sketching never progressed beyond stick figures. Demog rocks!

I like your sketching style. Do you illustrate your own books?

I also glad we no Demog in this world but that could change any momnet. I heard FEMA is working on it.

As to insecure writers, I am one, untried, unpublished, and too scared to try for either.

Oh no - you are one of the most original persons I know!
I really like the sketch. Dig the teeth.

Ooh, scary.

My immediate thought is 'ugly human' or 'replacement human', the kind of thing fantasy gods might come up with if they wanted to remake humanity rather than torment them.

Hi! Popping in from A-Z and Insecurities...I don't think your sketch is too monkey-like - the eyes are very human (scary, but human). I agree about feeling you have a bit of everything, I do too (especially as my two books are completely different genres), but if you can draw like that, then you are unique.

Love the sketch. You seem like a very unique person to me. I think everyone is influenced by bits and pieces of other people and events. But I think as writers especially, we don't have any chance of being just like anyone else.

See how he's looking away? I think he's bored. That's a yawn going on there.

We're all the sum of all kinds of parts. What makes you unique is what you do with it.

Like drawing chimera Demogs.

By the way, what is the Demog chimera made up of?

you know man, i think about those same kinds of things from time to time. what makes us who we are? if it's from genetics or from environment, what part of us do we actually own, you know? are we just a reflection of our own moment in time and space?
scary...
(or maybe i just ate too much chocolate frosting! and have a sugar high) :P
i'm not so familiar with the legend of chimeria... i'll have to look into it some time, but you seemed to summarize the gist of it.
i do like the sketch though, like i said before, you have a great command of anatomy! *jealous here*

He scares me. Nice work. I see Demog in the Deschutes National Forest, making use of those yeti houses on the top of Pine Mountain. Sneaking up on me while I'm looking thru my telescope. :-O

I can't believe how talented you are. I think this one is powerful and shows a great terrifying beast.

Demog. Interesting. My first thought was King Kong and Big Foot rolled up into one.
