Insert Title Here

First, my obligatory announcement that I’ve put a post up over at the Indie Writer’s Monthly blog. This time, since JJ Abrams is so secretive, I’m speculating on how I see Star Wars Episode VII ending up.

Hint… there will be time travel, and possibly a wind up that involves taking the corpse of the Emperor and using it, Weekend at Bernie’s style, in order to fool Vader into… well, you’d just have to read it for more.

IN OTHER NEWS. I mentioned Clay’s Ark in my last post. Octavia Butler’s novel. I typically don’t do reviews here (that’s what Goodreads is for) but since I mentioned it, I figured I’d fill you in on my verdict.

Bad ending! Bad!
What started out as a very good story about an incurable infection and people trying to make a life for themselves in the post-apocalyptic world she created in the book, it eventually descended into something much darker, and in my opinion, almost indistinguishable from torture porn. I was not pleased.

I read the book outloud to my wife as a compromise so we can both read the story together, but after she fell asleep with about 50 pages left, I finished it off by myself and was stunned at the turn there at the end.

I told her that I did not recommend she finish the book, but just leave the happy memories she has of it untainted.

Not a fan of torture porn either. Sorry the book went there.

No idea what you mean by torture porn. Sounds pretty dreadful.

So at the end all the characters are rounded up into a human centipede?

Yeah, there are some books that it is better not to finish.

Now I'm curious as to how bad it could be. But I don't want to read the whole book to find out.

I hate when books fall apart at the end. It always yells "pantser!" at me whether it's true or not. Basically, I wrote myself into a corner, so I crashed the room to get out.

Sometimes it's best to go out on a high note. SPOILERS! They'll use a stapler gun to attach his toupee before realizing he didn't have any hair.

Lovely...thanks for the warning.

Ugh, torture porn is the worst. So sorry this book didn't live up to your expectations!

Love an honest review, thanks. I do have a question though. I subscribed to the Indie Writer's Monthly and am COMPLETELY ENTHRALLED WITH THE STAR WARS STUFF, but haven't had time to read more than a few lines of each post.
So my question is, shouldn't it be called Indie Writer's Multiple Times Daily? Just an observation...

No real complaints. I appreciate getting to hang out with some of my favorite people. I will catch up, I will catch up. A-Z season is like...there's no description. It's all good, I love it, but wow, no time for your regular people as we try to spread the gospel of "write every day in April, Sundays off..."

So was it bad torture porn or good torture porn? You know, like Fifty Shades of Grey, which I've learned is the good kind. Women can say they want equality and fairness, but we know that all they really want is to be chained to a wall and whipped/beaten with sticks while being humiliated by a handsome rich man.

Torture porn? Ick!

Dang. Now I'm curious. But if it's darker than torture porn, I'm not so sure Clay's Ark is for me.

It seems some novels just go for the shock factor. Not my kind of thing.

Oh dear. I read one story by Octavia so far and like her writing.

Obligatory post? I didn't think anything could move you to post when you didn't want to.

Really? Torture Porn? Sigh. I remember reading THE POSTMAN and being let down by the ending, after having enjoyed the first of it.

I really thought I had discovered another Christopher Moore with DUNCAN DELANEY AND THE CADILLAC OF DOOM -- but the shocking, twisted ending took all the fun out of the book for me.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I appreciated your comment. :-)
