Beginnings... Again

I had a fantastic idea for a post over the weekend and forced myself  to wait until today to write it.

I have no idea what it was.

So, in its stead, I'm announcing that I've begun another short story. I have no idea what it's about yet, but I'm around 1500 words in and it seems promising. I can't wait to see what happens.

I'll have more later I suppose.

Good luck, man. The beginning is always the most fun to write. Actually, pretty much anything besides editing is pretty awesome.

You should just save the entry as a draft and then post it later. On Wordpress you can schedule entries to post later. I have entries up through May 2 right now.

Beer - thanks, beginnings are a time of great optimism. It could end up being the greatest story ever told. It isn't until the words are down on paper that they actually begin to suck.

Rogue - I am awful about writing in advance. I've done it before, but I don't know, it just seems so... wrong.

I love when you let the story write itself. Have fun with the story! :)

Yep, the beginnings are the best for me. I know people who prefer editing *shudder* I'm just about to embark on a new horror story, and I've got no ideas whatsoever -- exciting.

I usually make a not of the idea, then lose the note. Or I can't read the hanwriting or the note is too cryptic. Basically if it was a good idea, it'll come back to me.

I just go and title the post and save it. No actual writing. But the title is (generally) enough to keep me in mind of what I was going to write.

That's why I always write it down...

Good luck with your story. I used to have one of those hand held voice recorders where you could capture a few sentences. I should look for that Probably in a box in the garage collecting dust and spiders.

Madeline - Thanks, I'll try.

Deborah - Prefer editing? Wow. I don't know anyone who prefers it.

Mooderino - that's me exactly. If it's that good an idea I'll think of it again.

Andrew - I like your idea too. Of course the title is sort of like the dessert to a meal for me. I don't want to eat it first. But I should probably give up that way of thinking, writing the titles would probably help tremendously.

Alex - Thanks for pointing out that you're better than me. Now everyone will know.

Stephen - I could just put a voice memo down on my phone, but I might as well write it down if I was going to do that. I must have the subconscious thing about flying by the seat of my pants.

Well, the title doesn't need to be more than the subject you're going to write about. It's not like it's set in stone once you put it in that little box.

That way you get to have your dessert and eat it, too. :)
