L is for... Let's Recap!

It's about halfway through the A-Z challenge and I'm a couple of days behind. I'm sure by now everyone knows about what this whole A to Z thing is all about, but just in case - Click to learn more.

For anyone who doesn't already know, I'm trying to go from concept to completion on a cover for Andrew Leon's upcoming novel, Shadow Spinner. Since I'm already so close to the halfway point I should have already settled on a design, but I've not felt super-inspired about anything I've thrown up so far. But then again, it can be hard to use your imagination when the concepts are so rough to start with. But, I hope there is something I've done that Andrew would like me to continue using.

So, I'm posting thumbnails of previous concepts and am asking Andrew (And others too, I suppose) if there is anything here we can take as a something worthy of continuing. I made the last one bigger because I like it more. I've also numbered them for ease of reference.

I like the image of #9 as it evokes a story--a feeling.

Though I also like #4 as a cover since the name stands out and you have the shadow theme prominent.

It's cool how you have all of the options.

The second and ninth are the most powerful.

Although it's kind of plain, I like #4. 8 and 9 your shadow guy keeps making me think of Freddy Kruger. Especially for 9 it might be nice if the shadow were doing something more dramatic. Like if it were on the ceiling dangling down towards the kid or something menacing like that.

I love the first one because the boy is so scared of the tunnel.

I really like 9, but I'm not sure that it's the appropriate image for the cover. I'm kind of flipping that around in my mind, but I can't get it to evoke enough of the story for me.

However, 1 really does evoke an aspect of the story, since so much of the action in the early book is connected to the tunnel, and it does return later in the book, too.

I really like the idea of the battle between Michael and the Man with No Eyes there at the tunnel. Maybe with shadow spiders around Tib's feet?

I like 1,5, and 9. It's hard to comment without knowing anything about the book, though. On the other hand, the cover is the first thing you see and usually you don't know anything about the book yet!

My favorites are still the last one and the one with the little boy in bed.

II really like #2 and #9. Though you have an amazing talent, they're all great. I would hate to have to choose.

#3, #4, and #6 are the ones I like the most. I could see all of them making a really good cover, though!

I would hold an "L" up to my forehead and smile at you, but I don't want to make you feel bad.

Just kidding, Rusty.

I love your paintings. P is for Paintings! Get with the program, yo!

I love #4 and #9 for such different reasons. #4 just looks kick ass. #9 plays on the fear/suspense angle.
